An alcoholic is one who is unable to control the drinking of alcohol. A person is controlled by the desire, abuse, and misuse of alcohol. drinking is compulsive and out of control.  Personality traits are intensified.  Problem areas are intensified.  The tendency to overdo in other areas may be evident, as an effort to cover up deficiencies. Drinking on the job is frequent.  A drink is needed to in the morning to get going.

This is basically a sin-caused problem which has led to enslavement.

God is able to deliver completely by cleansing, sanctifying, and justifying. (1 Cor. 6:9-11).  Though Alcohol abuse is a failing of the flesh(Gal. 5:19-21), the Holy Spirit can and will produce the self control needed to overcome.
