Problem:  The marriage is on the verge of being broken up.  Seperation may have already happened. Conflict and disagreement are the rule rather than the exception.

The ideal is that two shall become one flesh(Gen. 2:24). God intended them to be bound together until death(Rom. 7:2, 1 Cor. 7:10-11, Jer. 32:19, Mark 10:9).
